brentgarland.com is both the online home of Brent Garland and a colossal waste of your time. Seriously. There are so many better things you could be doing, like stamp collecting or learning to play the ukulele.
Brent was raised in the epic American South. He is a writer, lawyer, and unrepentant malcontent. He spends a ridiculous amount of time thinking about books.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and a law degree. Brent has held various professional and academic positions, including a position on the faculty of the University of Virginia and a senior staff position at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His policy and scholarly work has focused on ethical, legal, and social dimensions of the criminal justice system, the mental health system, and numerous scientific disciplines, most recently neuroscience.
This site is a labor of love (read: a hole into which time and money are being sunk) and is powered by incompetence, hubris, and WordPress.
So, look around. Take your time, then email us to argue about why every one of his ideas, assertions or conclusions was wrong. Brent loves to argue.
